ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Sophomores Kelsey Crow (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Meike Meilleur (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) each scored one goal and added two assists en route to Penn State's 5-0 shutout victory over the RIT Tigers inside the Gene Polisseni Center Friday afternoon.
The win moves Penn State to 3-5-2 overall and 2-0-0 in College Hockey America (CHA) play, while RIT falls to 1-9-0 overall and 0-2-0 in CHA action.
Nine Nittany Lions recorded at least one point and freshman goaltender Daniela Paniccia (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) tallied 24 saves to complete the series shutout sweep over the Tigers. The Nittany Lions scored two power play goals, one short-handed goal, one even strength goal and one goal with an extra attacker.
Amy Petersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) got the Penn State offense going with her first goal of the afternoon at the 4:25 mark of the first period. Her goal in the first period was her second short-handed goal of the series. Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Crow picked up assists on the Petersen goal in the first period.
The Nittany Lions then added to their lead with a pair of goals in the second and third periods, respectively.
During the second period, Crow netted her second goal of the season at 8:11 with an extra attacker and almost six minutes later, freshman Abby Welch (East Amherst, N.Y.) scored her second-career goal at 14:04. On Crow's goal, Meilleur and Welch received credit with assists, while Meilleur and Bella Sutton (Shoreview, Minn.) recorded assists on Welch's goal.
Penn State collected a pair of goals within the first 10 minutes of play to open the third period.
In the third stanza, Petersen scored her second goal of the day, and third of the series, at 8:38 and then Meilleur scored her first-career goal at 9:42. Freshman Katie McMillan (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Crow recorded assists on Petersen's second goal, while Victoria Samuelsson (Leksand, Sweden) and Kelly Seward (Williamsville, N.Y.) were tabbed with assists on Meilleur's goal.
The Nittany Lions close out their six-game road trip against Mercyhurst, in Erie, Pa., Nov. 4-5, inside the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
