STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The No. 4 Penn State men's lacrosse team took down Stony Brook, 17-4, in the Nittany Lions' first road game of the season in LaValle Stadium on Stony Brook's campus.
Junior Mac O'Keefe was unstoppable on Saturday, scoring seven goals and adding one assist. O'Keefe's seventh goal at the 2:47 mark in the second quarter marked his 100th career goal. He is just the eighth player in Penn State history to score 100 career goals. His eight points tie his career high as well, a mark he has hit twice in his career.
Sophomore Jack Kelly added his second-straight hat-trick, and both freshmen TJ Malone and Jack Traynor each added two goals. Malone also tacked on an assist for four points.
Redshirt junior Grant Ament dished out a team-high four assists and added a goal, while senior Nick Spillane added three assists. Redshirt junior Dylan Foulds and redshirt freshman Dan Reaume each added a goal to round out the scoring. Freshman Nate Buller and Brett Hobbs each dished out an assist.
Penn State stifled the Seawolves, holding them to just four goals as Penn State scored 15 unanswered before the host would get on the board with 2:28 left to play in the third quarter.
Junior goalie Colby Kneese recorded eight saves in 48:21 in a cage, and he gave up just one goal and got the win. Senior Trevor Scollins came in in relief for the final 11:39 and recorded a career-best six saves.
Penn State returns to action on Saturday, February 23 as they take on No. 1 Yale at 1 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
