GAINSVILLE, Fla. – The Penn State women's golf team currently sits 10th in the 13-team field following the opening two rounds of the 2019 Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Penn State climbed one spot from the first round to the second round and currently stand 26-over following rounds of 299 (19-over) and 287 (7-over). Miami leads the tournament at 3-under while host Florida (even), Campbell (2-over), Clemson (3-over) and Tennessee (8-over) round out the top five.
Freshman Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) paced the Nittany Lions in the second round registering a 1-under score of 69 after an opening round 75 (5-over) and currently sits tied for 33rd at 4-over.
Senior classmates Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) and Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) each shot 1-over, 71 in the second round as Basso is current tied for 41st and Waller 47th overall. Senior classmate Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) shot back-to-back rounds of 6-over, 76, and sits tied for 63rd.
Playing as an individual, junior Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) rebounded nicely after an opening round 77 (7-over) to shoot a 2-over 72 in the second round.
Penn State registered 25 total birdies in the two rounds led by Willis' five in the second round including four on the back-nine as she came home in 31 (4-under).
The Nittany Lions conclude the tournament tomorrow morning with a single round of play commencing with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
