UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track and field/cross country student-athletes Evan Dorenkamp, Connor McMenamin, Victoria Tachinski and Alison Willingmyre were each named to the 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-District Track and Field team for District 2 Thursday. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances.
District 2 is made up of schools from Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Each of the four student-athletes selected will now be in the running for Academic All-America honors. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in late June.
Dorenkamp owns a 3.92 cumulative GPA as a finance major. He earned second-team All-America status in the indoor mile this season to close out a tremendous indoor season in which he set the Penn State mile record (3:55.02), recorded the fourth-fastest 1000m run in program history (2:21.33) and the fifth-fastest 3000m run in program history (8:01.84). Dorenkamp was a 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifier in the 800m race and finished in the top 20 of the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Regional.
McMenamin, a graduate transfer, earns Academic All-District honors for the second-straight season. He owns a perfect 4.0 GPA in his international affairs graduate program at Penn State and graduated with dual bachelor's degrees in economics and international relations from Bucknell in 2021 with a 3.91 undergraduate GPA. McMenamin is competing in the 3,000m steeplechase at NCAA East Prelims this week and owns a top-10 time in Penn State history in the event. He was a four-time All-Patriot League selection in the 3,000m steeplechase and cross country during his undergraduate career at Bucknell.
Tachinski holds an impressive 3.91 cumulative GPA in her biotechnology major. She is competing in the 800m race at NCAA East Prelims this week. Tachinski earned second-team All-America status in the indoor 800m race at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championship. She scored points in the 800m race and 4x400m relay at the 2022 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, finished in the top five in three events at the 2022 Big Ten Indoor Championships, and was the anchor of the 4x800m relay team that earned the Penn Relays championship this spring.
Willingmyre owns a stellar 3.9 cumulative GPA as a double major in biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering. She is a three-time qualifier for the NCAA Cross Country National Championship race, three-time cross country All-Region honoree, and a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
