UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State freshman linebacker Abdul Carter was named a Semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award on Thursday. Carter is one of 14 semifinalists and one of three Big Ten players on the list.
The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, in its fifth year, is presented by the Maxwell Football Club to the outstanding freshman player in college football.

- Has collected 35 tackles (23 solo) with 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble and two pass breakups.
- Carter paces the Nittany Lions with 4.5 tackles for loss and sits third on the team with 35 tackles.
- He is one of 11 Nittany Lions with at least one sack this season.
- Made five tackles (two solo) against Ohio (9/10).
- Tied for the team lead with six tackles (all solo) at Auburn (9/17). Added his first career sack and forced fumble.
- Recorded five tackles (4 solo) and a pass breakup against Central Michigan (9/24).
- Made two tackles, with one tackle for loss, vs. Northwestern (10/1).
- Registered five tackles (4 solo) and a tackle for loss at Michigan (10/15).
- Made his first career start, tallying eight tackles (3 solo) and a half-sack, against Minnesota (10/22).
- Picked up four tackles (three solo) and a sack vs. Ohio State (10/29).
Finalists for the fifth annual Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award will be announced on December 6 and the winner will be announced on December 29. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala in March 2023.
