Women’s Gymnastics’ Amani Herring Set for Competition at NCAA Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas – Sophomore Amani Herring is set for competition at the 2024 Women's National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships as an individual competitor on the balance beam. Herring will rotate with Arkansas in the 4:30 p.m. ET session of the championship meet at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday, April 18.

Both semifinal sessions will be broadcast live on ESPN 2 with additional individual event broadcasts available on ESPN+. Herring and the Razorbacks will start the 4:30 p.m. ET session on the balance beam.

PENN STATE INDIVIDUALS AT THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Last Time

·      2024 is the second consecutive season that Penn State has sent individual qualifiers to the NCAA Championships. Ava Piedrahita (vault) and Cassidy Rushlow (bars) advanced to the national meet last season.

·      This marks the first time Penn State has sent athletes to the NCAA Championships in back-to-back seasons since it did so three years in a row from 2016-2019.

·      In 2023, Piedrahita earned Postseason Second Team All-America honors on vault with a 9.875 total.

High Scores at the NCAA Championships

·      Balance Beam: 9.900 – Sharaya Musser, 2012

SEASON REVIEW – AMANI HERRING

In 2024, Herring recorded a career-best 9.95 on the balance beam on Feb. 9. The Denville, N.J. native also recorded three career high 9.95 scores on floor exercise in her sophomore campaign with the Blue & White.

·      In four of her last five meets, Herring posted a balance beam total of 9.875-or-above. She collected a 9.9 in the second round of NCAA Regional competition to qualify for the NCAA Championships, and then posted another 9.9 in the NCAA Regional final, helping her team to a regional school record 197.050 total score.

·      This season, Herring won two event titles on beam and four on floor. The sophomore has collected nine total event crowns in her Penn State career.

·      Herring and teammate Isabella Salcedo became the first Penn State teammates to record 9.95 scores on floor in the same meet since 2001. The duo earned their marks against Minnesota on Feb. 3.

·      Herring concluded her season with 13-straight 9.8-or-better scores on floor.
