UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's tennis senior Miko Eala earned multiple Big Ten postseason awards on Thursday. He was selected All-Big Ten first team and was honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Eala collected his second career All-Big Ten award after being a second-team selection in 2023. He is the seventh Nittany Lion to earn multiple career All-Big Ten honors and is the first since Constant De La Bassetiere.
As a senior, Eala has tallied 16 singles wins, including 10 in dual matches and a 6-3 mark in Big Ten play. Eala has won nine matches while playing at No. 1 singles, including two wins over ranked opponents.
He also owns six doubles wins, including four in dual matches and two wins at No. 1.
Eala was named Big Ten Player of the Week on March 27 after defeating Illinois' Karlins Ozolins, ranked 31st in the nation, and Northwestern's Presley Thieneman.
The Philippines/Manacor, Spain native enters the Big Ten Tournament this week with 64 career singles wins (38 in dual matches) and 39 career doubles victories (27 in dual matches).
He was a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2023 with 21 singles wins, including 18 in dual matches, and 12 doubles wins. He was also named College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District.
Eala is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar as a finance major.
The Nittany Lions, coached by Jeff Zinn, take on Purdue in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, April 25. The match is set to begin at noon with a live stream on B1G+.
