UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — No. 9 Penn State women’s gymnastics will compete in its first road meet of the 2025 campaign when it travels to San Antonio, Texas for the Lone Star Collegiate Invitational along with No. 7 Auburn, Arizona State, Temple, and Big Ten foe Maryland.

LAST TIME OUT 

The Nittany Lions are coming off a fantastic season-opener in which the team recorded its highest tally at a home season-opening meet in school history, a 195.775 effort that propelled the group to a 2-0 start to the year. The 195.775 scored by Penn State ranks ninth in the country heading into the second weekend of NCAA gymnastics competition.

Penn State had two athletes compete in the all-around in the first meet of the season, including Kalea McElligott, who posted a 39.150, as well as freshman Elizabeth Leary, who recorded a 39.050 in her collegiate debut.

VAULT – No. 15

Penn State’s 48.700 team score on vault sits 15th in the country after the opening weekend of competition. A 9.8 from Maddie Johnston led the way for the Nittany Lions on the apparatus in their season opener.

BARS – No. 13

In their season-opening meet, the Nittany Lions secured a 49.025 on bars, a mark that ranks 13th in the nation heading into week two of competition. Johnston once again led the way for Penn State as she posted a 9.85 while Arizona State transfer Cassi Barbanente posted a 9.825. Barbanente will get a chance to see her old squad for the first time since transferring to Penn State for her 2025 graduate season.

BEAM – No. 13

A 48.975 on beam puts Penn State at No. 13 in the country on the apparatus after opening weekend, with a career-best 9.85 from Ashley Maul leading the group after one week.

FLOOR – No. 6

A pair of 9.85 tallies from Jessica Johanson and Kalea McElligott pushed Penn State to a 49.075 floor score in their season-opener, a mark good for sixth in the country heading into competition on Saturday.

WHAT’S NEXT

Penn State continues its road trip with a Big Ten dual meet at No. 24 Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m.
