SYRACUSE, N.Y.– After three hard periods of defensive hockey, junior Katelyn Roberts delivered the game-winning goal in overtime for the No. 9/10 Penn State women’s ice hockey team in their 1-0 victory over Syracuse on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After three scoreless periods, Kendall Butze fed Katelyn Roberts in the neutral zone and Roberts then dragged the puck to the bottom right circle and ripped the game-winning goal in overtime with 1:52 left in the period.
GOALTENDERS
- Junior goalie Katie DeSa tallied 20 saves on the day. Her record improves to 17-4-0 in the year.
- DeSa picked up her fifth shutout win of the season and eighth career shutout win.
- Syracuse goalie Allie Kelley recorded 41 saves on 42 shots attempted. Her record drops to 6-18-0 on the year.
STATS AND NOTES
- This is the second overtime win over Syracuse this season and 13th overtime victory in program history.
- The game-winning goal was Robert’s second this season.
- The Nittany Lions outshot Syracuse 42-18.
- Penn State captured their seventh straight win of the season.
- The Nittany Lions are a perfect 11-0 in Atlantic Hockey America play, which is the only team in the country to hold a perfect record in conference play this season.
- This is the first time this season Penn State has scored one goal and won.
- Syracuse leads the all-time series 31-15-8.
