ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 27 Penn State women’s gymnastics team (11-7, 4-5 Big Ten) competed in a successful second session of the 2025 Women’s Gymnastics Big Ten Championships Saturday afternoon in the Crisler Center.
The squad, comprised of primarily underclassmen, tallied 196.050 points in total. Key performances included sophomore Alyssa Kramer’s 9.9 score in floor that tied her for first, and freshman Elizabeth Leary who placed 11th for all-around with 39.225.
ROTATION RECAP
The Nittany Lions started the afternoon on beam, with sophomore Ashley Maul tying her career best score of 9.875. Sophomore Dani Latronica also performed well on the beam, recording a score of 9.875. Beam was capped off by a successful routine from Maddie Johnston, good for a score of 9.9. In total, Penn State gathered 49.075 points on balance beam to start off Big Ten Championships.
The team earned a score of 48.975 in floor, led by Alyssa Kramer, Elizabeth Leary, and Bella Misiura. Kramer tied for first in the second session with a high score of 9.9, with Leary and Misiura behind her both totaling 9.825. The floor team consisted entirely of underclassmen, including four freshman and two sophomore athletes.
The third routine of the afternoon was vault, where Penn State put up a total score of 48.850. Maddie Johnston shined again during this event, leading the team with a score of 9.825. Freshman Elizabeth Leary continued her dominant day, scoring a 9.8 in the event.
The Nittany Lions closed out competition on the bars, tallying their highest score of the event, a 49.150. Johnston led off the rotation with an impressive 9.85 performance, with two other 9.85 scores coming from Dani Latronica and Cassi Barbanete. Leary closed out her day with a clean 9.8, followed by graduate Gabbie Gallentine who posted another 9.8.
For the tenth time this season, Leary placed in all-around results with a cumulative score of 39.225.
WHAT’S NEXT
Penn State is hopeful to earn a bid to the 2025 NCAA Regional Tournament which will be hosted in State College on April 2, 3 and 5 at Rec Hall.
