COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Penn State women’s tennis team (12-4, 3-3 B1G) dropped a 4-0 dual to Maryland (10-8, 3-3 B1G) on Sunday afternoon.
The Terrapins took the doubles point. On court one, Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima dropped Ema Kovacevic and Diya Challa, 6-2. Cegarra and Patricia Grigoras fell to Kallista Liu and Danielle Hack, 6-3, on court two. Jelena Vico and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru had their match on court three against Tamari Gagoshidze and Oliwia Orlinska go unfinished.
Maryland clinched the match with singles victories on courts two, four and five. At the five spot, Cegarra fell to Gagoshidze in a 6-3, 6-1 match. Vico dropped to Orlinska, 6-2, 6-0, on court four. Uchijima fell to Kovacevic, 7-5, 6-4, at the two spot to end the match.
Dorner and Liu on court one, Grigoras and Hack on court three and Ciubotaru and Challa on court six all had their matches go unfinished during the second set.
The Nittany Lions return home for two matches against two of the new Big Ten additions in USC and UCLA. The USC match is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, March 28 with the UCLA match on Sunday, March 30 at noon.
