Kuhns Named EIVA Defensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State’s Will Kuhns was named the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after recording his first-career double-double in a recent win over Merrimack.

Kuhns hit .357 with 15 kills and racked up a career-high 11 digs in the Nittany Lions’ 3-1 win over Merrimack on Friday night at Rec Hall. His defensive effort helped hold the Warriors to .163 hitting.

It’s the second EIVA award of the season for Kuhns. The graduate outside hitter was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week following the opening weekend of play. The Nittany Lions have won four EIVA awards as a team this season. Matthew Luoma picked up one Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Ryan Merk earned one Defensive Player of the Week accolade.

No. 19 Penn State heads to Phoenix this weekend for a pair of matches against No. 15 Grand Canyon. The teams play Saturday at 9 p.m. ET and then again Sunday at 7 p.m. Both matches will stream on B1G+.
