UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Tessa Janecke’s goal to start the second period pushed the No. 6 Nittany Lions to a 3-0 shutout win over No. 15 Mercyhurst on Friday evening at Pegula Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GOALTENDERS

  • Senior goaltender Katie DeSa made 18 saves, including 10 in the third period, for her third shutout of the season and 16th of her career.
  • Mercyhurst goaltender Magdelena Luggin made 32 saves in the loss, including 14 in the second period.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Tessa Janecke’s second period goal came just eight seconds in, the fastest goal to start a period by a Nittany Lion in program history.
  • Janecke picked up where she left off before missing a weekend of games, notching a goal and an assist.
  • She has a point in every game she’s played this season, a streak going back to last season’s NCAA Tournament game, tying herself for the third-longest point streak in program history at eight games.
  • This is the fifth time this season the Nittany Lions have had a different scorer on each goal in a single game.
  • Danica Maynard continued her stellar play, notching a goal and an assist.
  • She sits second nationally in points among defenders with 11, leading the AHA and Penn State in points.
  • McKenna Walsh had her second multi-assist game of the season, bringing her point total to four.
