No. 6 Men's Hockey Blanks LIU, 3-0, to Complete Series Sweep

Dimarsico registers three assists, Cerrato and Wiebusch one goal and one assist each to lead the way.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Freshman Josh Fleming (Montreal, Quebec) stopped all 28 shots he faced for his first career shutout as No. 6 Penn State blanked LIU, 3-0, in non-conference action at Pegula Ice Arena on Saturday night to complete the weekend sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Penn State (5-1-0) opened the scoring for the first time in five games as sophomore JJ Wiebusch (Verona, Wis.) deposited a rebound to the left of the crease into a yawning net after back-to-back saves by LIU (1-4-0) goaltender Daniel Duris on linemates Charlie Cerrato (Fallston, Md.) and Matt DiMarsico (Wexford, Pa.) for the 1-0 edge at 5:14 of the first period.
  • That same trio doubled the margin just 22 ticks into the second frame as Wiebusch found DiMarsico who fed Cerrato streaking through the slot, and he beat Duris through the five-hole for the 2-0 advantage.
  • The Nittany Lions would add a powerplay goal in the third period as junior Aiden Fink (Calgary, Alberta) found classmate Reese Laubach (San Jose, Calif.) above the crease and he snuck one just inside the far post for the 3-0 margin at the 7:41 mark.
