Combined Session / 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Penn State Softball Elite Winter Camp is designed for players who are interested in developing their skills to be able to play softball in and beyond high school at a high level. Players will have an opportunity to demonstrate their talents under the direct supervision and evaluation of the Penn State coaching staff and current student-athletes. Each player will learn the same skills and techniques that the Penn State softball players use to develop their game for pitching, catching, offense and defense.

AM Session - Pitchers & Catchers / 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Players will learn the fundamentals needed to improve their overall pitching and catching skills.

Pitchers

The pitching session will include instruction that focuses on drills to help with overall body mechanics, spin, movement, arm strength, and power to help produce optimal pitch velocity.  Drills will also be incorporated that enhance overall pitching game IQ as well as locating various pitches based off batter characteristics

Note:  Pitchers must bring a catcher who is NOT attending the clinic for break out drill work. Gloves, cleats, and turf shoes are required; face masks are optional.

Adult guest catcher - Those adults attending with a pitcher must complete a waiver of liability at final registration to participate.

Minor guest catcher - Those minors attending with a pitcher must complete a Participant Form online to participate.  Minor guest catchers must bring their full catching gear.

Catchers

Catchers will be provided with the opportunity to learn proper mechanics to help enhance their blocking, receiving, and glove transfer skills. Catchers will also be provided with insight on how to continue to develop arm strength and overall pop times. Catchers must bring their own equipment (i.e., face mask, chest protector, cleats, turf shoes/sneakers, and shin guards).

Enrollment is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

PM Session – Position Players with Live Situational Play/ 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The PM Session-Position Players is designed for players who are interested in developing their skills to be able to play softball in and beyond high school in positions other than pitching and catching.  Players will have an opportunity to learn the same skills and techniques that the Penn State softball players use to develop their game for offense and defense.

Few spots will be available for pitchers and catchers on a first come, first served basis to participate in the live situational play.  If you attend the PM Session as a pitcher or catcher, you must choose a secondary position for breakout defense work, then warm-up for pitching and catching before live play.

NOTE:  If you want more direct instruction regarding pitching and catching work,  it is recommended that you register for the AM Session (Pitchers/Catchers).

Drills in the defensive segment will aim to help campers improve their skillset at their designated infield and outfield position.  During the offensive portion of camp, campers will have the opportunity to develop skills as a hitter and base runner.  Skill instruction will include specific drills to improve swing mechanics, base running mechanics, along with decision making skills to become a hitter rather than simply a swinger.  Live situational play will occur once the defense and offense breakdown skill portions are complete.  A question-and-answer session will be available to campers with current players and staff after instruction.

***Bring all softball equipment needed for offense and defense.  Cleats and turf shoes are required.

Enrollment is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

**Helpful Registration Information**
Sign your athlete up for their primary position to assure that the skill instruction can be tailored to their specific needs. Pitchers and catchers in the first session can return to participate in the PM session under their secondary position if desired. Campers should be prepared to play the position in which they registered.
