9.30.20062006 Varsity 'S' Day Celebrated with Pride

On September 30, 2006, prior to the Northwestern football game, Varsity S Club members celebrated Varsity S Day in true Penn State spirit at a pre-game social located under tent in the southeast corner of Bryce Jordan Center property. The social kicked-off a day that honored all former University Park student-athletes, cheerleaders and managers for their valuable contributions to the traditions, ideals and spirit of Penn State Athletics throughout the years.

In addition to socializing, the Club President, John Barnes, presented one former outstanding Penn State employee, Kay Kustanbauter (Athletic Development), honorary lifetime membership to the Varsity S Club. Kay now joins Don Ferrell and Diana Kenepp (Morgan Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes), Ellen Perry (Athletic Administration), Frank Rocco (Athletic Administration) and John Coyle (NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative) as the only six honorary members of the organization.

The Varsity 'S' Club was created as a way to keep former Penn State athletes, cheerleaders, mascots and managers connected with their sport teams, Intercollegiate Athletics, and teammates. It was also created as a way to continue supporting our athletic programs through Club involvement and interaction within the Penn State and local community. We have expanded our member benefits and continue to look for creative ways to support our current varsity athletic teams and promote the positive impact Penn State student-athletes have on our local communities and youth.
