UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; September 27, 2006 ?? The Fifth Annual Kevin Dare Memorial Scholarship Benefit Concert will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006. The benefit concert honors the memory of Penn State student-athlete Kevin Dare who died February 23, 2002 while competing in the pole vault at the Big Ten Men??s Indoor Track & Field Championships in Minneapolis. All proceeds raised will go towards the Kevin Dare Memorial Scholarship Fund. Dare, 19, won the United States Track and Field Junior National Championships as a sophomore and was the 2000 PIAA pole vault state champion in high school.
The benefit concert will be held at Caf?? 210 West and begins at 8 p.m. A $5 cover charge includes a VaultSafe wristband. Performances by Natalie, JR, & Band, Lemon Soul, Ted McCloskey & HiFi??s, and Johnny Arrowhead.
The Kevin Dare Pole Vaulting Memorial Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship for a student athlete on the Penn State men??s track and field team. The benefit program has grown in recent years to include a golf outing, raffle drawing, VIP raffle for PSU home football games, and the benefit concert, now in its fifth year.
