Women's Tennis Concludes the Final Day of the Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Penn State women's tennis team closed their final day at the Furman Fall Classic this afternoon with three singles wins. Penn State's top finisher was sophomore Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Ontario) who earned a fifth place finish over Clemson's Kathi Gerber (6-4, 6-1).

Two other Nittany Lions placed in the finals today. Senior Jenny Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) took a commanding win over Wisconsin's Jessica Seyferth (6-3, 6-1), while freshman Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) also earned seventh place beating Wisconsin's Morgan Tuttle (6-2, 6-2).

"The team finished up on a high note," said head coach Dawna Prevette. "I noticed big improvements as the weekend progressed."

In other singles, junior Leyla Morzan (Vancouver, British Columbia) fell to Elizabeth Carpenter of Wisconsin (6-1, 6-4), and sophomore Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) lost to Chelsea Nusslock also of Wisconsin (6-1, 7-6 (7-5)). Junior Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) dropped a three-set heartbreaker to Furman's Lauren Tomory (2-6, 7-5, 6-4), while junior Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) lost the battle for third place in the Flight 6 singles with a loss to Furman's Natasa Manojlovic (6-0, 6-1).

The Nittany Lions will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 6, for the Tennis Center College New York Invite in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
