Jan. 21, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - The Penn State women's tennis begins its spring season at home on Tuesday, hosting the Bucknell Bison, who will make the short trip west from Lewisburg, Pa., at 5:30 p.m., at the Indoor Tennis Center.

The dual match will consist of six singles matches and three doubles matches.

"We are excited to start off our season at home," said head coach Dawna Prevette. "The ladies have been working very hard and I know they are anxious to compete."

The Nittany Lions finished their fall season in November hosting Cornell at the Penn State Invitational. The team won six of eight singles match and one doubles match. Sophomore Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) took the doubles win, 8-4. Junior Leyla Morzan (Vancouver, British Columbia), who lost her first set, put in a notable performance and went on to win the next two sets to defeat her Cornell opponent. This match will be the Bison's first action since mid-October when they attended the NCAA/ITA East Regional in Norfolk, Va.

Following tomorrow's dual match, the Nittany Lions will be on the road for the next two weekends. The team's next match will be Sunday, Jan. 27 against the Pioneers of Denver at 4:30 p.m. EST.
