UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State fans, alumni and students can now access free, live game statistics for Penn State Football games via their mobile phones. The athletic department today announced that the service offering real-time stats, scoring summaries and other relevant game information provides another means for fans to follow the Nittany Lions from virtually anywhere.
"This supports our commitment to deliver Penn State action to our fans, wherever they may be," said Greg Myford, Associate Athletic Director for Business Relations and Communications. "Recall those times that you knew Penn State was playing, and you were not able to access updates via TV, radio, or computer. Now, you can take out your phone and find out what's going on."
MyLEADERBOARD, the product's official name, is compatible on a wide array of "smartphones," including Windows Mobile, Blackjack, Blackberry, and Palm devices. The download is offered at no cost with standard text message service, but data usage and carrier fees may apply. Fans can access the service in two ways:
1. Penn State Athletics official website, www.GoPSUsports.com. Click on the banner ad promoting PSU Football Mobile, or fans can also go to: www.GoPSUsports.com/footballmobile. Upon entry of phone number and cell carrier, fans will receive a message on their mobile phone with a downloadable link. Activate the link and the application is automatically downloaded. A new page appears on the website confirming the process.
2. Fans may also access PSU Football Mobile directly from their mobile device. Enter the address cstv.myleaderboard.com/psu.html into the browser, and compatible devices will be prompted to download the application (non-compatible devices will be redirected to the WAP version).
The new technology, made possible by myLEADERBOARD, Inc., and CBS College Sports Network, was introduced to Penn State by Bob Fiori, President of Janus Marketing and a Penn State graduate.
"I naturally became very excited by the capability to bring real time statistics and action to the thousands of PSU football fans, and I knew right away that I wanted my alma mater to showcase this," said Fiori. "Penn State has a rabid fan base, and now they can keep up with the game even when they are watching their kids play soccer or attending a wedding reception. Penn State has been very progressive in wanting to get this going," says Fiori, "and I think their involvement can help grow this product."
