Junior guard Meggan Quinn (Red Lion, Pa.) will miss the remainder of the 2008-09 season after tearing the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in her left knee at practice on Wednesday. She had previously torn the ACL and Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) in her right knee during the 2006-07 campaign.
Quinn is averaging 2.8 points per game in 19 appearances, including six starts, this season. The junior also has 12 rebounds, 12 assists and five steals on the year. Earlier this season, Quinn registered a career-high 16 points, including a 4-for-8 day from behind the arc, go along with three assists in the win over Coppin State. She also made her first career start versus Stony Brook, accounting for 14 points, including a 5-for-5 effort from the free throw line.
The Penn State Lady Lions (10-16, 5-11) return to the Bryce Jordan Center for the final time this season as they host the Northwestern Wildcats (7-20, 3-13) on Senior Night at 7 p.m., on Thursday. Seniors Rashida Mark (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Brianne O'Rourke (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Mashea Williams (Erie, Pa.) will be honored before the game for their Lady Lion careers. The Lady Lions will also celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Thursday with a pregame autograph session with student-athletes from various Penn State women's teams and free admission for all youth (18 and under).
The Lady Lions complete their regular-season at Ohio State on Sunday, March 1 at 4 p.m., a game that will air on the Big Ten Network. Penn State will then travel to Indianapolis for the 2009 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament on March 5-8.
