The Nittany Lions will head to South Carolina where they will compete in the Paladin invitational held by Furman University. It will be their first tournament of the 2009-10 season and their first time competing in the Paladin Invitational.
"We are looking forward to getting our competitive season started," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "I expect the toughest competition to come from the host team Furman, James Madison who just had a strong showing last weekend at Michigan State and the Carolina schools who are always strong. We are hoping to finish in the top five."
Penn State goes in to the tournament with just one senior starter, Katherine Murphy (Portsmouth, R.I.). The team will also be led by juniors Brianna Malcolmson (Murwillumbah, Australia), Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) and Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.). Rounding out the field for the Nittany Lions are freshmen Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Illinois) and Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio).
The tournament will be held in Greenville, S.C. at the Furman Golf Course. Other teams competing include: Furman, James Madison, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Greensboro and East Carolina University.
