Men's and Women's Tennis Announce Summer 2010 Camp Dates

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - The Penn State men's and women's tennis teams will host three sessions of camps this summer, running June 16-19, 20-24 and 26-30. Students entering grades 6-12 next fall are encouraged to attend. High school graduates are also eligible to enroll.

Penn State Tennis Camp is designed to provide individualized instruction, taking into account the performance level of each student camper. An excellent student to instructor ratio is maintained in order to provide individual coaching for each camper. Court drills will reinforce strategy concepts, supervised match play, round-robin and team tennis, while enhancing agility, quickness and endurance.

All sessions of Penn State Tennis Camp are held on Penn State's University Park campus in State College, Pa. Campers are housed in University residence halls, supervised by camp counselors.

Participants will play at the state of the art Sarni Tennis Center, the home of the Penn State men's and women's varsity tennis teams. The facility consists of seven courts, complete with lights and a stadium court. Additionally, four indoor courts are available at the Indoor Tennis Center.

Camp co-directors are Penn State women's tennis head coach Dawna Prevette and men's head coach Todd Doebler. Prevette is in her third season with the Nittany Lions and possesses a wealth of experience in college tennis. Prior to coming to Happy Valley, she was an assistant coach at Baylor University and head coach at her alma mater, the University of North Texas.

Doebler is in his fourth year leading the men's tennis team. He came to Penn State after previously being an assistant coach at Notre Dame and Pepperdine, In his first three seasons with the Nittany Lions, Doebler has led the program into two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a second round appearance in 2008. In addition to his experience on the collegiate level, Doebler also has experience as a teaching professional and has worked at many prestigious camps.

Also assisting are women's assistant coach Evan Clark, who is in his second season, and men's assistant coach Brendan Lynch, in his first season of coaching after playing for the Nittany Lions from 2005-09. Current and former members of the Penn State men's and women's teams, as well as local teaching professionals, will also assist at the camp.

Week 1 has a $540 fee with check in from 10:30-12 on June 16 and check out at 2:30 on June 19. Weeks 2 and 3 each have a $590 fee. These resident camper fees cover instruction, a camp shirt, housing and all meals.
