Day One Results

After one day and two rounds of golf at the Big Ten Championships, the Nittany Lions recorded a score of 609 (304-305) for a +33. That leaves them in eighth place in the 72-hole tournament that the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. The Nittany Lions' first round of 304 is its second-best round of the season behind the 297 they notched at the Spider Invitational.

Freshman Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) shot a team-best 150 (72-78) for a +6, leaving her in a tie for 21st place. Her first round of 72 ties her second-best round of the season, with her best round being a 71 at the Nittany Lion Invitational in the fall. Senior Lindsay Cullen (Allen, Texas) followed close behind, carding a 153 (76-77) and earning a tie for 31st place following the first day. Her 76 in the first round is her season-best.

Junior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) was one stroke behind Cullen with a 154 (77-77) and a tie for 35th. Junior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) and freshman Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) both carded a 155 through the first day. Carando's 75 in the second round ties her season-best at the Spider Invitational. Junior Brianna Malcolmson (Murwillumbah, Australia) rounded out the field for the Nittany Lions with a 157.

Purdue currently leads the tournament with a 571 (289-282) for a -5 through the two rounds. Michigan's Ashley Bauer is currently the tournament individual leader carding a 139 (74-65). The round of 65 is a new Big Ten record and a course record.

The second round of the Big Ten Championships will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. The fourth and final round of play will be on Sunday, April 25, at 8 a.m.
