RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The Penn State women's golf team compiled a team score of 315 to finish 27-over-par in the final round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Purdue. The Nittany Lions took 15th place, totaling an 80-over-par three-round score of 944 (321-308-315) on the par-72, 6,191-yard River Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort.
Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) carded three rounds of 78 to finish with an 18-over-par 234. The junior finished in a tie for 46th. Sophomore Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) posted a third-round score of 81 for a 236 (79-76-81) total and a 52nd-place finish.
Freshman Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) carded a 78 in the final round, her best round of the tournament. She jumped 11 spots on the final day to finish in a tie for 56th place overall with a 22-over-par 238 (81-79-78). Classmate Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) finished in a tie for 65th place with a 25-over-par 241 (83-75-83).
Fellow freshman Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) shaved 10 strokes off of her previous day score, carding a 78 in the final round, finishing with a three-round score of 259 (93-88-78). Classmate Catherine Herrera (Houston, Texas) competed as an individual and totaled a 243 (76-80-87).
LSU jumped Georgia on the final day to take the team title with a cumulative 20-over-par score of 884 (294-292-298). Georgia's Marta Silva Zamora broke the three-way tie for first on the final day and finished with a 3-under-par 213 (74-66-73).
Penn State will continue its spring season at the Rio Verde Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan. The tournament will begin on March 9 and last until March 11.
