University Park, Pa. - The No. 47 Penn State women's tennis team (10-7, 2-4) could not upset the No. 33 Minnesota Golden Gophers (13-4, 3-3). The Nittany Lions fell to the Golden Gophers, 5-2. The loss marks the first time Penn State has been defeated at home since February 19th. After being swept in the doubles matches, Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) and Fernanda Perrotta (Buenos Aires, Argentina) picked up singles victories for the lone Nittany Lion points.

In the No. 1 doubles bout, the No. 39 ranking of Natallia Pintusava and Magdelena Wiecha proved to be too much for Januskova and Chelsea Utting (Peachtree City, Ga.). The Golden Gopher duo snapped the Nittany Lion pair's three-match winning streak with an 8-2 victory.

Carmen Sandor (Toronto, Canada) and Marie-Frederique Bedard (Montreal, Canada) teamed up to take on Alex Palen and Doron Muravnik in the No. 2 slot. After a back-and-forth match, the Nittany Lions were eventually upended, 8-5, to secure the doubles point for the Golden Gophers.

In the No. 3 match, Nina Sertic (Zagrab, Croatia) and Perrotta battled Aria Lambert and Julia Courter. After a hard-fought match, the senior duo ultimately fell, 8-4.

In singles action, Utting lost to Pintusava in the No. 2 match, 6-4, 7-5. In the number one spot, No. 61 Januskova tallied a 6-3, 7-5, victory over Palen, to put the Nittany Lions on the scoreboard, 1-2.

In the No. 3 slot, Sandor was defeated by Muravnik, 6-4, 6-2. In the number five bout, Bedard could not capitalize on a strong first set, as she fell to Yuliana Umanets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. After that win, Minnesota clinched the victory.

After a close first set in the number four match, Perrotta could not pull out the set, losing 7-5 to Courter. However after an even second set, the senior earned the match victory via retirement.

In the number six duel, Sertic came out strong, defeating Lambert 6-0 in the first set. But the Golden Gopher stormed back to take the next two sets and the match, 6-3, 6-0.

Next up, the Nittany Lions will host Wisconsin on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. After that, Penn State will head to Illinois to take on No. 14 Northwestern on Sat., April 14 at 11 a.m. and No. 19 Illinois on Sun., April 15, also at 11 a.m. Following that trip, the Nittany Lions will return home for their last match in Happy Valley, when they host No. 15 Michigan on Fri., April 20 at 3 p.m. Penn State will close out regular season play, when it travels to Michigan State on Sun., April 22 at 11 a.m.
