FRENCH LICK, Ind. - The Penn State men's golf team improved their overall standing on day two of the Big Ten Championships at the Pete Dye Course, earning the 10th place ranking with a round three score of 301 to total 915 going into the final 18 holes.
Freshman Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.) shot a 72 in round three to move his standing up from tied-for-35th to tied-for-20th individually with a 225 total. Sophomore Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) is right on Houston's tail with his 226 three round mark.
Senior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) shot a 75 on the day to bring his 54-hole total to 231. DeGol is currently tied-for-44th on the overall, while freshman JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) dropped to 51st place and owns a score of 233. Senior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W. Va.) remains in 60th place after two days of play, shooting a 251 total.
With one round remaining at the Big Ten Championships, Illinois holds a seven stroke lead for first place over Minnesota. Illinois' Thomas Pieters claims the individual first place spot, with an outstanding 6-under-par three round total of 210.
The final 18 holes will begin with tee times starting at 8 a.m. April 28. Woodward will tee off first for the Nittany Lions at 8:40 a.m., followed by Dornes, DeGol, McDonald-Smith, and lastly Houston will tee off at 9:12 a.m.
