UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's hockey team will hit the road for the first time in 2013-14 when it travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a two-game series against Air Force Oct. 18-19. Game time for Friday and Saturday nights' matchups are both set at 9:05 p.m. ET.

ALL-TIME VS. AIR FORCE
The Nittany Lions are 1-1-0 all-time against the Falcons after hosting Air Force for a two-game series last season. Penn State fell in the opening game by a 5-1 margin before defeating the Falcons by an identical score.
LAST TIME VS. THE FALCONS
Forward Max Gardiner registered a then-career high three points, while Casey Bailey and Connor Varley recorded a goal and an assist each. Forwards David Glen and Michael McDonagh (en) also reached the back of the net, and goaltender Matthew Skoff made 31 saves for his second victory of the season.
RETURNING HOME
Head coach Guy Gadowsky is returning to Colorado Springs, where he spent his collegiate days as a member of the Colorado College Tigers. Gadowsky played at Colorado College from 1985-89 and served as team captain as a senior.
LIONS OPEN PEGULA WITH WIN
The Nittany Lions opened Pegula Ice Arena with a 4-1 win over Army in front of a standing-room only crowd of 6,370. Four different Nittany Lions scored, including David Goodwin and Eric Scheid, who scored in their Penn State debuts. Sophomore Matthew Skoff made 25 saves.
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Redshirt junior defenseman Nate Jensen etched his name in the Pegula Ice Arena record books as the first player to score in the facility. Jensen's slapshot through traffic 3:02 into the first period gave the Nittany Lions the early 1-0 lead.
STEADY SKOFF
Dating back to last season, goaltender Matthew Skoff is 7-2-0 in his last nine games.
FRESHMEN SHINE
Several freshmen shined in their Penn State debuts vs. Army Oct. 11, 2013. Forward David Goodwin led Penn State with a goal and an assist, while linemate Zach Saar tallied an assist. Forward Dylan Richard and defenseman David Thompson also logged significant minutes in the victory.
GETTING IT DONE EARLY
In the team's first game, sophomore Curtis Loik tallied a shorthanded goal for Penn State, which only scored three shorthanded markers last season. The Nittany Lions scored their first shorthanded marker in their eighth game in 2012-13.
SPECIAL TEAMS SUCCESS
Penn State successfully killed off nine of 10 power plays, including a five-minute major and a 5-on-3, against the Black Knights.
ATLANTIC HOCKEY
The Nittany Lions are opening the season with four straight games and six of their first seven contests against teams from Atlantic Hockey. Penn State will also play RIT (Oct. 25), Robert Morris (Nov. 1) and Sacred Heart (Nov. 8) to start the season.
SCOUTING AIR FORCE
The Falcons opened the season with a pair of losses against Alaska (6-1) and Alaska Anchorage (4-2) last weekend. Air Force will host Penn State for their home-opening series.
PSU VS. SERVICE ACADEMIES
The Nittany Lions are opening the 2013-14 season with three straight games against U.S. service academies (1-0-0).
FAMILIAR FOES
Sophomore Kenny Brooks was teammates with Air Force's Cole Gunner and Johnny Hrabovsky with the USHL's Tri-City Storm.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following this weekend's games, Penn State will return home to face RIT Oct. 25 before facing off against Vermont Oct. 26 in the Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff.
