Smucker Named ALC Rookie of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Following a four-goal week, freshman midfielder Abby Smucker (Bel Air, Md.) of the No. 11/12 Penn State women's lacrosse team has been named the American Lacrosse Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced.

A Bel Air, Md., native, Smucker collected four goals and two draw controls in a pair of games. The newcomer netted her first three-goal performance of the season in an 18-11 victory against then-No. 12 Loyola March 8. The midfielder also collected a goal against James Madison March 5.

In 2014, Smucker has appeared in all six games and ranks third on the team in goals (10), fourth in draw controls (8) and eighth in points (10), and is one of three Nittany Lions with a game-winning goal. The midfielder is the first Nittany Lion to receive a weekly honor this season.

Penn State (3-3, 0-0 ALC) will return to action Wednesday, March 12 when it visits Rutgers at High Point Solutions Stadium. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
