UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State head women's lacrosse coach Missy Doherty has announced the additions of seven incoming freshmen who will represent the Class of 2018. The contingent is comprised of four midfielders, two defenders and a goalkeeper.
"This is an extremely diverse group of talent," said Doherty. "We are looking forward to seeing them on the field for the next four years."
Four standouts - McKenna Coyle (Kennett Square, Pa.), Maggie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.), Maggie Kaulius (Severna Park, Md.) and Katie O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa.) - garnered US Lacrosse All-America honors during their high school careers. In addition, O'Donnell, a West Chester native, broke the Pennsylvania state all-time goal record with 430 goals during her standout career at Henderson High School.
The incoming freshmen include:

- Allie Dolder (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Defense
- Maggie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.), Midfield

- Courtney Mertz (West Chester, Pa.), Defense
- Katie O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa.), Midfield

During the 2014 season, the Nittany Lions recorded their fifth straight 10-win season and advanced to the NCAA tournament in three straight seasons for the first time since 1995-97. With the additions of Maryland and Rutgers to the Big Ten, the league will sponsor women's lacrosse for the first time in 2015. Penn State will open Big Ten play with a trip to Rutgers the weekend of March 26.
