UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Selected to play in their 45th bowl on Sunday evening, the Nittany Lions (6-6, 2-6) are headed to New York City for a matchup against Boston College (7-5, 4-4) in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl (Dec. 27 at 4:30 p.m. in Yankee Stadium).
Led by one of the nation's top defenses, Penn State is headed to the postseason under the direction of first-year head coach James Franklin. The Lions will enter the bowl season with a defensive unit ranked No. 1 in the nation in rushing defense (84.8 ypg), No.2 in total defense (269.8 ypg), No. 8 in scoring defense (17.7 ppg) and No. 10 in passing yards allowed (185.0 ypg).
Big Ten Linebacker of the Year Mike Hull headlines a group of 17 seniors deserving of the opportunity to play in the postseason. Hull was tremendous in 2014, tallying 134 tackles (11.2 tpg). Junior defensive tackle Anthony Zettel joined Hull as a member of the All-Big Ten First Team.
