Penn State (15-15-4, 9-9-2 CHA) gets the No. 4 seed in the College Hockey America (CHA) standings after Robert Morris (11-17-5, 8-8-4 CHA), whose 20 points match the Nittany Lions, holds the head-to-head advantage. The Blue and White will host No. 5 Lindenwood in the opening round of the CHA Playoffs. The best-of-three series at Pegula Ice Arena features games on Fri., Feb. 27, Sat., Feb. 28 and, if needed, Sun., March 1.
Caitlin Reilly (Chanhassen, Minn.) scored Penn State's lone goal five-and-a-half minutes into the game. Hannah Bramm (Tampa, Fla.) skated the puck up the nearside boards and took a shot from the top of the slot. Jessica Dodds kicked it directly to Reilly, who tapped the 1-0 score in to the empty net.
After taking a 1-1 tie into the second period, the Nittany Lions became plagued by penalty trouble, issued five infractions in the frame. Robert Morris was able to capitalize on the advantage, with Amanda Pantaleo scoring 13 seconds into a 5-on-3 and on the ensuing power play, Mackenzie Johnston added another goal to put the Colonials up, 3-1. In the third, a second shorthanded Robert Morris goal sealed the 4-1 loss for Penn State.
Robert Morris out-shot Penn State, 37-25. The Nittany Lions were led by Micayla Catanzariti (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), who took a team-best four shots, her season high.
Penn State was narrowly edged in the faceoff circle, 31-27. Bramm's 12-9 record on puck drops was a team-best.
While on the power play, the Blue and White was 0-for-5, while Robert Morris went 2-for-5 with the player advantage.
Between the pipes, Celine Whitlinger (Garden Grove, Calif.) fell to 11-10-1 after making 33 saves and Dodds moved to 9-14-4.
