Milley's Playing Career Cut Short by Injuries

March 2, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's hockey junior forward Jonathan Milley (Gatineau, Quebec) will not continue his playing career in Hockey Valley, it was announced Monday, due to reoccurring injuries.

"Jonathan has spent more time and worked harder in the training room than any other athlete I have ever seen," said head coach Guy Gadowsky. "I know he gave his absolute best effort to play but his body just didn't comply. He is a great student and will continue to help our program off the ice. I am very impressed with the support of Penn State University in regards to Jonathan's health and commitment to get his degree."

"I am very honored to have gotten this far in hockey," said Milley. "Injuries have prevented me from continuing to play, but at this point and time my health and degree are what is most important. I am so grateful to be considered part of an awesome team and to be able to get an education beyond my expectations."

Milley, who played in four games this season, last appeared in the Blue and White at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 29 in a 3-1 loss to Cornell. Milley had a goal and an assist in the second game of the season vs. Connecticut.

For his career, Milley battled injury throughout, compiling 33 games played with six goals, seven assists and 13 points. A large physical presence on the ice, the 6-4, 246-pound forward from Quebec doled out hits as well as a strong shot from the wing.

His best season came freshman year in which he played nine games, scoring four times with three assists. Last year, Milley played 20 times, dishing three helpers and tallying a goal.

While unable to play hockey at Penn State, Milley will stay enrolled through the duration of his education to earn his degree with the support of the program.

The Nittany Lions continue the homestretch of regular-season Big Ten games with a home series against Michigan. Friday's game is slated for 7 p.m. while Saturday's Senior Day game is set for 3 p.m. Both games will be streamed through BTN Plus.
