2015 B1G Field Hockey Players to Watch

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Three Penn State field hockey players were named to the 2015 Big Ten Field Hockey Players to Watch List Thursday, as Carly Celkos (Berlin, N.J.), Cori Conley (Oak Point, Ill) and Stephanie Hussey (Miami, Fla.) each earned recognition.

Celkos, one of just three returning starters, started all 22 games at midfield last season as a sophomore. The junior tied a career-high with four shots at No. 15 Iowa, posted an assist in back-to-back wins at Ohio State and at No. 18 Michigan State, and scored her first career goal in a 5-2 win against No. 14 Princeton.

Conley, a sophomore, played in all 22 games and started in 21 in her first season for the Nittany Lions. The only true freshman in last season's starting lineup, she was a member of a defensive unit that finished the season 10th nationally with a 1.31 goals against average, including six shutouts. Conley also earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors following opening-weekend wins against No. 9 Old Dominion and Virginia, helping hold the Cavaliers scoreless in a game for the first time since 2011.

Hussey, a senior, did not see any playing time last year after transferring to Penn State from Syracuse, where she totaled seven goals and six assists during a two-year stint.

Penn State opens the season on the road August 28 at 6 p.m., taking on Old Dominion in Norfolk, Virginia.
