Gibson Named Big Ten Athlete of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill.
- Jumping her way to the No. 1 mark in the nation in the women's triple jump this past weekend, junior Dannielle Gibson (Nassau, Bahamas) has been named the Big Ten Co-Women's Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

Gibson, who entered the meet fresh off an appearance at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala., finished the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge with the No. 1 mark in the nation in the women's triple jump at 42'-8" (13.00) as well as the No. 16 mark in the nation in women's long jump at 20'-0.25" (6.10m), and a personal best in the 100-meters clocking 12.14 seconds.

The junior from Nassau, Bahamas shares this week's honor with senior Kelsey Card of Wisconsin. Card collected a trio of top-three finishes at the Aztec Invitational, including first-place honors in the discus (59.31 meters), second place in the shot put (16.57 meters) and third in the hammer throw (57.78 meters)

Gibson becomes the first Penn State women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week since teammate Melissa Kurzdorfer received the award on May 14, 2014.This is the first Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award of Gibson's career.

The Penn State track & field team will travel to Gainesville, FL for the Florida Relays this weekend Apr 1-2.
