UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Penn State Student Section presented by The Apartment Store sold out more than 21,200 tickets, highlighted by the junior and sophomore classes that sold out in less than an hour. The Penn State Student Section presented by The Apartment Store has consistently sold out for four decades, showing the passion and dedication of Penn State students year-in and year-out.
"Our student section is awesome," head coach James Franklin said. "Those 21,000 students pack the end zone and give us a home field advantage unlike any in college football. We can't wait to get back in Beaver Stadium this fall."
More than 21,200 student football season tickets were sold this week to become part of what ESPN The Magazine called "The Nation's No. 1 Student Section." The Nittany Lions will host a home schedule that includes five Big Ten opponents for the first time in program history ââ'¬" Minnesota (Oct. 1), Maryland (Oct. 8 - noon, Homecoming), Ohio State (Oct. 22 ââ'¬" 8 p.m.), Iowa (Nov. 5 ââ'¬" 7:30 p.m.) and Michigan State (Nov. 26, Senior Day). Penn State also hosts Ken State (Sept. 3) and Temple (Sept. 17) in non-conference play.
"Once again our students have answered the challenge of maintaining the best student section in college football by claiming more than 21,000 student football season tickets for 2016," Jeff Garner, Assistant AD, Ticketing Sales and Service said. "Our students are a key ingredient in creating an unparalleled, entertaining game day environment that supports our mission of enhancing the overall Penn State experience for students and student-athletes. We are extremely grateful for the support and passion our students express for their fellow classmates during fall Saturdays at Beaver Stadium and look forward to welcoming them to the South end zone in September."
For students who were not able to purchase season tickets during the sale, Student TicketExchange will be available throughout the season for home games. More information will be posted to Student Central (www.GoPSUsports.com/studentcentral). Student ticket away game information will also be released closer to the season.
