NEW ORLEANS
- Nittany Lion jumper Dannielle Gibson (Nassau, Bahamas) received Mid-Atlantic Field Athlete of the Year honors, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday afternoon. Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches.

Gibson, a junior, will compete Saturday in the women's triple jump at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The women's triple jump is slated for a 3:30 p.m. (PDT) start time.

During the 2016 outdoor season, Gibson set an all-time all-conditions record in the women's triple jump with her leap of 13.63mw (44-8.75") at the 2016 NCAA East Preliminary Round.

At the Big Ten Championships, Gibson placed second in the triple jump, 10th in the long jump, as well as running a leg on the women's 4x100-meter relay.

Also during the 2016 outdoor season, Gibson captured individual wins in the triple jump at the Jim Thorpe Invite and Pepsi Invitational in Eugene, Ore.

Along with the all-time all-conditions record, she owns the No. 2 performance in the indoor triple jump in Penn State history.

This is the first outdoor USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Field Athlete of the Year award for Gibson.

Gibson joins six other Nittany Lions competing this week at the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field.
