November 3, 2016 - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; This weekend the Penn State Nittany Lions will head to Madison, Wis. to compete in their final tournament of the fall season. The tournament will be played in the Nielsen Tennis Stadium at the University of Wisconsin, beginning on Friday, November 4 and concluding on Monday, November 7. The results of this tournament will crown the fall season's singles and doubles champions.
There will be Nittany Lions competing at the event. Four seniors; David Kohan (Sydney, Australia), Christian Lutschaunig (Richboro, Pa.), Nika Dolidze (Tbilisi, Georgia), and Marc Collado (Barcelona, Spain) will be playing for the Lions this weekend. Sophomores Ben Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.), Zach Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.), Matt Galush (Cary, N.C.), and Henry Gordon (New Braunfels, Tx.) will also see the championship courts.
The Lions have achieved several successes during their tournament run so far this fall, and hope to continue that pattern in Madison. With this being the final tournament of the fall circuit, the results will impact the lineup positions come springtime.
"I really enjoy going to this tournament and seeing the other Big Ten teams in action," said head coach Jeff Zinn earlier this week. "It's a good chance to see the new players in the conference and get a feel for the other teams and how they are going to stack up in the spring. The other teams also get to see our new players and how they are going to impact our squad. Overall, it's a good year-end tournament, and gives us insight into what we need to work on to end the semester on a positive note."
"The guys are playing really solid as we go inside," said associate head coach Paul Tobin. "We have been focusing on doubles every day, concentrating on the pairings. This will be a good indicator of how we sit comparably in the Big Ten."
