Penn State Attends First NCAA Duel of the Season

Penn State men's team finish 4-2 and women's team finishes 4-1 at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Nittany Lions traveled to Sacred Heart University to compete in the Tradition Tournament against Sacred Heart, Vassar, Princeton, Harvard, New York University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (men's only).

The men's team beat four of the six teams present. Penn State won against NYU 15-12, NJIT 20-7, Sacred Heart 23-4, and Vassar 20-7, only falling to Harvard 15-12 and Princeton 18-9.

Leading the men's team were sophomore Karol Metryka (Linden, N.J.) and freshman Mohamed Hassan (Saint Louis, MO). Metryka ended the competition with an 12-4 on saber and Hassan finished with a 10-6 on foil.

The women's team did not compete against NJIT at the tournament, but competed strong beating four out of the five teams at the match. Penn State won against NYU 22-5, Harvard 14-13, Sacred Heart 23-4, and Vassar 21-6.

Penn State fell to Princeton 19-8. Leading the women's team was senior Jessie Radanovich (Tollhouse, Calif.) lead in scoring on epee with an 10-0 and freshman Jade Rowland (Princeton Junction, N.J.) lead in foil with an 10-4.
