UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team fell 6-0 to the Mercyhurst Lakers in a College Hockey America (CHA) contest Friday night inside the Pegula Ice Arena.

"It wasn't the prettiest of games for 60 minutes," interim head coach Dean Jackson said. "Certainly a penalty filled game and when that happens certainly, there's no flow to the game. It's tough to build that type of momentum when you get down early in the game and it continues to compound, so it's always tough to climb back after that. We just have to be better tomorrow."

The Lakers (9-16-2, 5-7-1 CHA) got on the scoreboard at 6:44 into the contest on Rachael Smith's seventh goal of the season.

Mercyhurst then added to its lead on a pair of goals from Sarah Hine in the second period. Hine tallied her first goal of the game at 4:52 and then she extended the Mercyhurst lead to 3-0 at 13:20.

The third period of play featured Mercyhurst finding the back of the net three times. During the third frame for the Lakers, Celine Frappier scored at 3:42, Taylor Accursi posted a goal at 8:24 and then Smith made it a 6-0 game at 14:58.

In net for the Nittany Lions (6-16-5, 5-6-2 CHA), junior Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) made 26 saves, while Sarah McDonnell recorded 13 saves for Mercyhurst.

The two teams close out the series Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. Saturday's game is Penn State's annual Skate for the Cure game. Fans that attend Saturday's game wearing pink receive free admission.
