UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's soccer team is slated to partake in six matches over the course of its 2017 spring schedule, head coach Erica Dambach announced Monday. The 2017 Penn State women's soccer spring schedule is highlighted by two matches against National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) teams.
The Nittany Lions open their 2017 spring schedule on Feb. 25 in a doubleheader against ACC teams, Pittsburgh and Syracuse. The Pittsburgh match is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. followed by the Nittany Lions taking on Syracuse at 2:30 p.m. with both matches taking place inside Holuba Hall.
Penn State returns to action on March 18 against the Washington Spirit of the NWSL. The match against the Spirit is slated for a 2 p.m. start at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.
When the Nittany Lions take to the field against the Spirit, they'll face-off against Penn State alums Whitney Church '15 and Joanna Lohman '04.
The Blue & White close out March with a pair of home matches against St. Francis (Pa.) on March 26 and Bucknell on March 31. The St. Francis match is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start and the Bucknell match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Depending on the weather, the matches against St. Francis (Pa.) and Bucknell will be played either in Holuba Hall, the practice soccer field or at Jeffrey Field.
Penn State will take on Nittany Lion alums Maya Hayes '14 and Raquel Rodriguez '16 when it travels to Sky Blue FC on April 9 for its spring season finale. The Sky Blue FC match is slated for a 4 p.m. start with the location to be announced later.
The 2017 Nittany Lions return 20 letterwinners from the 2016 season and five letterwinners that missed the 2016 season due to the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
