UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Men's golf heads to Houston, Texas for the third installment of the Challenge at Champions against Michigan State on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The overall series is tied at 1-1 with Penn State's victory coming last year against the Spartans who were then just weeks removed from winning the 2016 Big Ten Match Play Championship. The Spartans captured the first victory in the Challenge's inaugural match in 2014.
"We are very much looking forward to getting back to the Champions Golf Club to renew our challenge match with an outstanding Michigan State team," says head coach Greg Nye. "They have had a great year and will be a tough opponent."
Penn State sends six golfers down to Houston, including five from the Big Ten Match Play Championship lineup. Senior Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) and junior Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) are joined with the trio of sophomores in Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.), Ryan Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) and JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.). Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) replaces Alec Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) in competition this week for the Nittany Lions.
The match format will be 18-hole stroke play, each team with six players with only the top-five scores counting towards the team score.
