UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State track & field teams are set to host the 2017 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Nittany Lion Outdoor Track for the third-time in program history (1996, 2007) May 12-14.

Four squads appear in the latest USTFCCCA National Rankings heading into the championships with the Nebraska men's team leading the conference at No. 16 and the Penn State men's squad ranked No. 17. The Purdue women's team is No. 15 nationally, while the Nittany Lion women check in at No. 24.

Friday's events begin at Noon ET with the decathlon 100-meters and are scheduled to wrap up at 8:15 p.m. with the men's 10,000 meters. Saturday's schedule opens with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles at 9:30 a.m. and the final event of the day is slated for 6:45 p.m. with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The women's triple jump trials and finals opens Sunday's competition at 11:30 a.m. ET and the last scheduled event is the women's 4x400-meter relay, tentatively planned for a 4:45 p.m. start.

TRACK & FIELD ON BTN
Friday's action won't be broadcast, but Big Ten Network will stream the action via BTN2Go Saturday beginning with infield finals to be live streamed on BTN2Go, starting at approx. 1:20 p.m. ET (beginning of women's long jump) through 5:30 p.m. ET approx. (end of men's long jump). Coverage picks back up Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET. The meet will first air on television Sunday, May 14 at 7 p.m. on Big Ten Network. LEADING THE B1G
According to Track & Field Results and Reporting System (TFRRS), the Nittany Lions have the top performance in five events in the Big Ten Conference.

Big Ten event leaders entering the meet include Isaiah Harris in the men's 800-meters (1:45.12), Danae Rivers in the women's 800-meters (2:02.53) and 1,500-meters (4:16.33), Tori Gerlach in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase(9:50.60) and Madeline Holmberg in the heptathlon (5,636-points).

NCAA QUALIFYING
The Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be the final opportunity for the Nittany Lions to qualify for the NCAA East First-Round.

Qualification to the Preliminary Championships: Competition of the championships is based on the descending-order list for the season, segregated by east and west sites, and prepared solely from the mandatory submission of meet results during the season and adhering to the qualifying regulations.

For each individual event contested at each of the Preliminary Championships Competition sites, the top 48 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested at each of the Preliminary Championships Competition sites, the top 24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition.

Heading into this weekend, Penn State has 17 NCAA Top-50 performances.

DEFENDING CHAMPS
The Nittany Lions have one individual looking to defend his 2016 Big Ten title.

Isaiah Harris is the reigning Big Ten champion in the 800-meters with his 2016 winning mark of 1:46.21 at last years meet.

NEXT TIME OUT
The Penn State track & field program travels to Lexington, Ky. for the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East First-Rounds. The NCAA First-Rounds takes place at UK Outdoor Track & Field Complex on the campus of the University of Kentucky, May 25-27. To qualify for the NCAA East First-Rounds, the top-48 declared individuals and top-24 relays are selected.
