UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State Student Section sold out more than 21,000 tickets in just 89 minutes, highlighted by the sold-out allotments of the senior (20), junior (10) and freshmen (15) classes in less than 20 minutes each. The Penn State Student Section has consistently sold out for four decades, showing the passion and dedication of Penn State students year-in and year-out.
"To sell out 21,000 tickets in such a short period of time, shows that we have an awesome student section," head coach James Franklin said. "It is a true advantage to have those students going crazy in the south end zone and is one of the things that makes Penn State so special. We can't wait to get to get our family back together in Beaver Stadium this fall."
Students looking forward to being part of what ESPN The Magazine called, "The Nation's No. 1 Student Section," will be a part of a home schedule that features a trio of non-conference games, including Pitt's first visit to Beaver Stadium since 1999. The Nittany Lions open the season against Akron (Sept. 2) and face Pitt (Sept. 9) and Georgia State (Sept. 16) to close out a three-game homestand to start the year. In Big Ten play, Penn State welcomes Indiana (Sept. 30), Michigan (Oct. 21), Rutgers (Nov. 11 - Homecoming) and Nebraska (Nov. 18) to Happy Valley.
"Once again, the students of Penn State have clearly shown why they make up the best student section in all of college football," Jeff Garner, Assistant AD, Ticketing Sales and Service said. "Incredibly high demand has created another student season ticket sellout. Students that were not able to secure season tickets this week, can still join in the Penn State Student Section by visiting the Penn State Student TicketExchange for single game student tickets when it opens in mid-August."
More information on the Student TicketExchange will be posted to Student Central (www.GoPSUsports.com/studentcentral). Student ticket away game information will also be released closer to the season.
More than 8,000 new season tickets have been sold for the 2017 campaign.
