SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Day three of action at the USATF Championships saw Penn State senior Michael Shuey grab a bronze medal in the javelin Saturday afternoon at Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State.
After opening with two throws in the 230's, Shuey's third throw of the competition held strong as the throw that cemented his place on the medal stand as he finished the competition with a new school record of 255'-8" (77.94m) in third-place.
Shuey posted two marks on the day further than his previous personal best of 250'-8" (76.42m) as his fourth throw of the competition was 253'-8" (77.32m).
Also competing in the javelin was teammate Michael Biddle who capped his sophomore season in the Blue & White with a best of 200'-5" (61.08m) to take 18th-place.

Malik Moffett, who will compete in the 200-meters and long jump at the USATF Championships, opened competition in the 200-meter first-round finishing the half lap with a time of 21.23 seconds for 26th-place. Moffett will return to compete in the long jump tomorrow afternoon.
Rachel Fatherly, school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor shot put, took to the circle to compete for a chance to make Team USA in the event. The 2016 Penn State graduate finished the meet with a best of 53'-6.50" (16.32m) to take 14th-place.
David Lucas, who was actually the first Nittany Lion to compete on Day Three, finished the discus throw with a mark 184'-9" (56.32m) to take 10th-place.
Evonne Britton stepped on the track for semifinal action in the 100-meter hurdles to wrap up the competition day for Penn State in Sacramento. Britton finished seventh in her heat running 13.09 seconds to take 12th-overall in the event.
At the 2017 Bahamas Championships, Keianna Albury pulled double duty, competing in the 100-meter and 200-meter finals. The first of the two saw Albury run 11.68 seconds for fourth before returning to post a time of 23.53 in the 200-meters finishing fourth.
Also competing Saturday afternoon was freshman Karson Kowalchuk who grabbed a first-place finish in the Ontario Provincial 100-meters running 10.38 seconds as he continues down the path to the Canadian Junior Champions scheduled for July 3-9.
Tomorrow will feature current Nittany Lions Isaiah Harris (800-meters), Malik Moffett (long jump), as well as Penn State alums Joe Kovacs and Darrell Hill compete in the men's shot put - both 2016 Rio Olympians in the event.
