UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team fell 2-0 to the No. 2 Clarkson Golden Knights Saturday afternoon at the Pegula Ice Arena. Similar to Friday's contest, Clarkson netted one goal in the first period and one goal in the third period.
Clarkson (5-0-1) tallied its first goal of the game on Michaela Pejzlova's second goal of the season with 3:09 left in the first period.
The Golden Knights extended their lead to 2-0 at 4:23 into the third period on Loren Gabel's fourth goal of the 2017-18 campaign. After Clarkson went up 2-0, the Nittany Lions (1-4-1) went on the power play at 6:51 and then had a 5-on-3 opportunity for 1:09 at 7:42. With the two man-advantage, the Nittany Lions were unable to cut into the 2-0 deficit.
With 2:52 left in the regulation the Blue & White went back to the power play once again, but were not able to get on the scoreboard.
In net, Daniela Paniccia (Oakville, Ontario) finished the day with 26 saves, while Shea Tiley made 13 saves for Clarkson.
Penn State now hits the road for a pair non-conference games against Merrimack in North Andover, Mass. Puck drop is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m. at Lawler Rink.
