UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.-- Taylor Shukow (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Bennett Dunn (Orlando, Fla.) were named captains of the 2017-18 Penn State women's tennis team. The Florida natives are both seniors and will be leading the team this year.
Both Dunn and Shukow grew up playing junior tennis and even played with one another in juniors. Both started their careers in Florida and will finish together in the blue and white.
Dunn transferred from Alabama and is going into her second year with the Nittany Lions. "Bennett has played really high level tennis and has seen it all from a tennis perspective," said Shukow.
Shukow has been with the team since her freshman year. "Taylor is consistent and brings it everyday both on and off the court," said Dunn.
The honor of being named captains is not lost on the two and both recognize the distinction of being recognized by their coaches.
"As Coach Fenwick and I sat down and discussed the upcoming season this summer we felt Taylor and Bennett would be great fits for us in terms of leading the team as captains," said head coach Chris Cagle. "We talk a lot within our team that everyone has a role to play and as captains they are expected to lead by example and set the standard for our team this year. Both Bennett and Taylor bring common goals to the table along with their own personalities. I look forward to seeing where this year's team can go and their leadership will be a big part of our success."
The captains will be looking to keep the team consistent throughout the rest of the year as they continue to incorporate five new freshmen into the mix. "It's really important to remain consistent for us, every season has its ups and downs. You can't let the highs get too high and the lows get too low," said Dunn.
Dunn and Shukow will lead the team into their final fall tournament from November 3-5 where the team will split between the Kitty Harrison Invitational and the Hokie Invitational. As the fall season concludes, Dunn and Shukow will continue to help prepare the team for an exciting spring season ahead.
