SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Penn State women's hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Syracuse Orange Friday night at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.
The Orange (2-7-1, 1-0-0 CHA) took a 2-0 lead over the Nittany Lions (2-7-4, 0-2-3 CHA) into the first intermission on a pair of goals from Stephanie Grossi. Grossi scored her first goal of the game just 44 seconds into the contest before finding the back of the net once again at 7:14.
After a scoreless second period, Megan Quinn netted her first goal of the season to give Syracuse a 3-0 lead at 11:19 into the third period.
In net for Penn State, Daniela Paniccia (Oakville, Ontario) recorded a 19-save outing, while freshman Chantal Burke (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) made her Nittany Lion debut and made five saves in the final 8:41 of regulation. For Syracuse, Abbey Miller tallied 14 saves.
The two teams close out the series on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m.
NOTES: Syracuse leads the all-time series against Penn State, 19-1-3…Syracuse outshot Penn State, 27-14…Penn State went 0-for-8 on the power play, while Syracuse went 1-for-6.
