WENTZVILLE, Mo. - The Penn State women's hockey team closed out its 11-game road trip with a 4-1 loss to the Lindenwood Lions Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena. Freshman Natalie Heising (Maple Grove, Minn.) tallied her seventh goal of the season in the loss.
Lindenwood (6-13-1, 4-6-0 CHA) recorded its first goal of the afternoon on Sierra Burt's sixth goal of the year at the 5:30 mark of the first period.
The Nittany Lions (6-9-8, 3-3-4 CHA) tallied their lone goal of the afternoon on a power play goal from Heising at 2:24 into the second stanza. On the Heising tally, defensemen Bella Sutton (Shoreview, Minn.) and Kelsey Crow (Minnetonka, Minn.) recorded assists.
The tie game wouldn't last long as Kirsten Martin made it a 2-1 contest in favor of Lindenwood at 3:52 into the second period. The Lions would strike once again in the second period as Hannah Alt scored at 18:33 to make it a 3-1 advantage.
Lindenwood capped off the afternoon with an empty net goal from Martin with 1:15 left in regulation to give the Lions a 4-1 victory.
Lindenwood's Jolene deBruyn made 40 saves for the victory, while sophomore Daniela Paniccia (Oakville, Ontario) recorded 13 saves in 39:49 of play and freshman Chantal Burke (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) posted four saves in 19:31 of action.
The Nittany Lions return home to the Pegula Ice Arena for a series against the Syracuse Orange, Jan. 19-20. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Jan. 19 and 3 p.m. on Jan. 20.
