FNC: Penn State Solid in Day One at Duke

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" Penn State traveled to Durham, N.C., for a dual meet series at Duke University this weekend. Head coach Wes Glon's men's team competed against North Carolina, Brandeis, Duke and Johns Hopkins in the first day of action.

The Nittany Lion men won three of four duals. Penn State beat Johns Hopkins, 19-8; University of North Carolina, 19-8, and Brandeis, 21-6 while falling to Duke, 11-16.

Leading the men's team were sophomores Matt Lewicki (Oakland, N.J.) and Mohamed Hassan (Saint Louis, Mo.). Lewicki had a 10-2 finish in saber and Hassan finished 9-3 in foil.

The dual meet series continues tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 11, when the women will fence North Carolina, Brandeis and Duke

Following this weekend's action, select Penn State fencers will be participating in the Junior Olympics on Friday, Feb.16, and will finish the event on Monday, Feb. 19.
